Capacity

“I can’t handle it all” Wow those are tough words to say or swallow.  In this lifetime I’ve learned the hard way, (which is the overcommitting till I have a complete bedridden stress-induced sickness), that I am not able to handle as much as some people are.

You see, we compare our capacity to others, we see the mom next door juggle a 40 hour job, volunteering, 2 kids, an amazing home and husband and think “gosh I’m single and I can’t even handle my own life.  But if you’ll remember in the Parable of the Talents, God gives us each a unique amount of abilities and capabilities.

As for me I am a creative brain.  I love to design, plan, dream, and put things into practice.  My personality can sometimes get bogged down easily though because there is so much passion inside of me.  I require a lot of down time and solace to recharge my batteries.  Other people are more right-brain driven for results and quick actions without lots of planning.

We are both very gifted, but just with different things.  “Thou shall not covet”, comes to mind when I think of wanting to have the capacity someone else has.  Their capacity is not for me, and if God only gave me 2 talents instead of ten, then I’m going to use those to the best of my ability.  Because what matters is not that I bring back 10 talents and surpass everyone else so they can see my glory.

What matters is that my Master says, “well done my good and faithful servant” and with that I can take a deep breath and know I’ve done my best for Him.

And guess what? Often when we do our best and succeed at the small things in God, He blesses us with even more! Just like in the parable.

So go, and pray that God shows you your gifts and how you can use them for Him.  Let’s train ourselves to care deeply about hearing those words from the lover of our soul.

In Jesus precious name, Amen
