Scarf Challenge Update!

GIVING-US

Merry Christmastime to you!

Okay, so I know it’s been a while since I challenged us all to give away scarves to men and women who are homeless.  I wanted to update you on my challenge.

I’ve given away two scarves.  One was to a lady who was sitting in her wheelchair outside in 50-degree weather asking others for money.   I was renting a movie at Redbox and saw her.  I was tempted just to do it another time, but went back.  I asked her name, and told her God Bless.  Her name was Pat.

Another guy was sitting outside Walgreens and I gave him an orange scarf and asked him if he was a believer he said yes, and I gave him a tract to read.

I wish I had a video of them when I gave them the scarves.  Their face lit up as if they had just won the lottery.  Who doesn’t love a gift, and unexpected at that.  I’m sure they felt as if someone truly cared even for just a moment.

I don’t know about you, but I’m sure most people just pass on by and ignore them most of the time.

All this is nice, warm, & fuzzy………but

I didn’t ask them their stories.  I didn’t take time to talk to them about the Lord or ask them how they got to this point.

You see, I am grateful to God, my  heavenly father, that I have never been homeless.  You and I are so blessed to have loyal families, friends, and people who would step in if something happened.

But sometimes, drugs, alcohol, mental disorders, etc. can bring a person to utter despair.   These battles can be too much for their loved ones to handle so they just give up.

I have no room to judge, because it could happen to me. I’m not free from pain and suffering.

But the point I’m trying to make is that, through God’s healing and redeeming power their lives can change.  You never know how one kind, caring soul could ignite a fire in someone.  That’s what I want to inspire you to do this holiday season.

Shine the light of Christ’s love by volunteering, giving more money than normal to a charity, visit the sick, or giving a coat or scarf to someone who is homeless.  Also, here’s a great website with lots of ideas on how to help!

God’s word says…

For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. Matthew 25:35-36

I do believe He is going to ask us what we did with what He gave us, what would your response be when you get up to the pearly gates one day?

~Happy Serving My Friends!

~Remember to update me on your scarf challenge stories so we can encourage others to do the same.
